heritage in bloom
Liberty London
Heritage in Bloom reinterprets Liberty London’s rich archive through a contemporary retail experience. Inspired by the cultural context of Msheireb, the project transforms traditional patterns into dynamic three-dimensional forms, creating a journey where heritage, craft, and modern design intersect.

Design Concept
The concept “Archive in Bloom” explores the transformation of Liberty London’s archival patterns into a spatial experience. Inspired by the idea of growth, patterns evolve from flat, two-dimensional motifs into vibrant three-dimensional forms. This progression creates a narrative journey through the space, where heritage is reinterpreted through movement, material, and cultural integration.

Design Narrative
The space is designed as a curated journey through Liberty London’s heritage, where each display represents a moment within a larger narrative. As users move through the store, patterns evolve, materials shift, and spaces open and close, creating a layered experience of discovery. Each zone is treated as an individual composition while contributing to a cohesive story of growth, culture, and transformation.

Key Design Strategies
Narrative Displays
Each display is treated as an individual composition while contributing to a cohesive story.
Material Continuity
A unified material palette is used throughout the space, with subtle variations to distinguish zones.
Cultural Integration
Liberty’s heritage is blended with local influences inspired by Msheireb’s architectural language.
The Spatial Experience
A Curated Journey
Spatial Organization
The layout is organized as a continuous sequence of zones, each representing a stage in the narrative journey. While a single flooring material maintains visual continuity, variations in pattern and spatial arrangement define each area. The circulation encourages movement through the store, allowing users to experience each display as part of a cohesive whole.

Material & Lighting
The design integrates materiality and lighting to enhance both the visual identity and spatial experience. Natural materials such as timber, bamboo, and porcelain create warmth and continuity, while patterned surfaces and textiles reinforce the concept of transformation. A layered lighting approach highlights displays, emphasizes textures, and enhances the immersive quality of each zone.
